How safe is my pet’s procedure?

Each pet is different, and procedures and surgical events vary as well. Elective surgeries such as spaying and neutering have less risk than a more complicated tumor removal for example. The doctors and staff at Oasis Veterinary Hospital have many years of experience in veterinary medicine, and combine this with their compassion for animals to provide the greatest outcome for your pet.

How often should my pet have an exam and blood work?

We recommended yearly appointments with blood work as necessary. Of course, if your pet is having an issue that needs attention please do not hesitate to call our clinic and schedule an appointment.

Does my pet really need a dental procedure?

Good dental health prevents harmful bacteria from manifesting into serious diseases. Oasis Veterinary Hospital recommends dental check-ups beginning at one of year of age and cleanings as necessary for the life of your pet.

How important is nutrition for my pet?

Studies show that up to 40% of pets in the United States are overweight. Just like humans, obesity is detrimental to the health of animals, leading to problems such as diabetes and heart disease. Our animals depend on us to provide them food; therefore it is our duty to them to feed with proper food nutrition.

How long should I wait to bring my pet in if I notice a change in their behavior?

A change in your pet’s behavior may be indicative of many things, including illness. You should not wait long at all! Our pets can’t tell us what’s wrong, so a change in behavior is a sign that action should be taken. Oasis Veterinary Hospital can provide care quickly and efficiently.

What should I do if I notice visible parasites on my pet?

External parasites such as fleas and ticks are not only a nuisance; they can carry diseases that can be deadly for your pet as well. Prevention is less costly and more effective that treatment of parasites. Call Oasis Veterinary Hospital and make an appointment to have one of our doctors determine which preventatives are the best for your dog or cat.

At what age should I have my pets spayed or neutered?

There are several factors that help determine the best age for spaying and neutering including your pet’s breed (larger breeds wait longer) and individual health status. Prior to any surgery at Oasis Veterinary Hospital, all pets undergo a physical exam and a pre-anesthetic blood screening to determine overall fitness for the surgical procedure.

Typical spaying and neutering for most pets not used for breeding purposes is usually recommended between 4 and 6 months of age. Spaying and neutering help with animal population control and prevent unwanted pets. Just as importantly, spaying and neutering can improve the overall health of your pet, and help in avoiding certain reproductive diseases, and some types of cancer. Our staff have years of experience and will bring the same level of care to your pet. Call Oasis Veterinary Hospital to schedule your pet’s procedure today!

What are heartworms and how can I prevent my pet from getting them?

Heartworms are very common and can infect both dogs and cats. They are transmitted from mosquitoes and unless your pet is on a preventative medicine, the parasite can mature in the heart and lungs your pet and are potentially life-threatening. A monthly preventative medicine is very cost-effective compared to the treatment for heartworms. Oasis Veterinary Hospital is familiar with the latest medicines and treatments, so don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment today.
